Table Layout
- Card piles should be located such that most or all players can reach them.
- The four Daylight Tokens should be placed adjacent to each other in a conspicuous location on the table.
- Material cards can be stacked and consolidated into one slot. No other types of card can do this!
- In front of each player is their Hotbar, which can accomodate 3 cards (or stacks of Material cards) simultaneously.
- Each player's hand is their Inventory, which can accomodate 5 cards (or stacks of Material cards) simultaneously.
- An active Weather card should be located next to the Daylight Tokens.
Daylight Tokens
- A daylight token is a unit of time.
- The game starts with all 4 daylight tokens on one board. This is the beginning of the day.
- Once all players have taken their first turn, one token is removed. This is a "round" of turns, and one token is removed each round.
- When all four tokens have been removed, it is now night. One token will now be added each round, and it will return to day only when all four tokens have been replaced or when all players in a round sleep.
Objective
- The first player to collect all 20 Shinies wins the game. Multiple mechanisms are available to do this:
- Strategically using Shinies as a currency for trading is strongly recommended.
Other
- Discarding a card is called "incinerating" it. When a card is incinerated, it is returned to the bottom of its respective pile.
- Players cannot possess more than 8 Health Tokens and 8 Hunger Tokens. If they do something which would cause them to exceed one of these limits, they will gain only enough to possess 8 of each token.
- When a player loses all of their Health tokens, they have died. Thankfully, Minecraft allows them to respawn. If this happens to you, reset all of your cards (both Hotbar and Inventory!), as well as Health and Hunger tokens, to the starting deal.
On each Turn
- If you have at least 7 Hunger tokens, take 1 Health token.
- Remove 1 Hunger token.
- If it is currently night, roll the die. If it reads 1-3, remove 1 Health Token. If it reads 4-6, do nothing.
- Take ONE of the following actions:
- Sleep - if all players sleep during the round and it is currently night, the time is reset to day.
- Move ONE card (or stack of Material cards) between the Hotbar and the Inventory
- Incinerate ONE card (NOT a full stack of Material cards - only one!)
- Eat ONE food
- Harvest ONE Generator card if it has been in your hotbar for at least 2 turns.
- Activate a Weather card
- Craft an item
- If you have a Pickaxe in your hotbar, Go Mining
- Go Hunting
- Draw ONE card from the Effect/Weather cards and add it to your Inventory if there is sufficient room
- Discard ONE card from your Inventory
- Trade with another player
Eating Food
- Food can only be eaten when it is in your hotbar.
- To eat a Food card:
- Incinerate the card
- If you have the Furnace, take 4 Hunger tokens.
- Otherwise, take 2 Hunger Tokens.
Effect Card
- An Effect card is active as long as it is in your hotbar.
- Furnace
- When played, discard 4 Stone, 2 Wood, and 1 Health Token.
- While active, each Food played provides 4 Hunger Tokens (rather than 2).
- Shelter
- When played, discard 4 Wood or 2 Stone.
- Weather cards have no effect on whoever has this card active.
- Water
- While active, whoever has this card active may double the results of their Generator cards.
- Armor
- While active, when an owner of this card would take damage during the night, they may roll again. If the die reads 1-3, they still take 1 damage. If the die reads 4-6, they take no damage.
Generator Card
- Place a Generator card (a Sapling or a Seed) into your Hotbar to activate it.
- If it has been in your Hotbar for at least 2 turns, it can be harvested. To do this:
- Discard the Generator.
- Take ONE card from the Gardening pile (seeds/saplings).
- If you harvested a Tree:
- If you have an Axe, take 2 Wood and 1 Stick.
- Otherwise, take 1 Wood.
- If you harvested a Seed, roll the die, If it reads 1-2, take 1 Food. If it reads 3-4, take 2 Food. If it reads 5-6, take 3 Food.
Weather Card
- To activate a Weather card, place it next to the Daylight tokens. It will remain in effect for 3 turns.
- Only one Weather card can be active at one time!
- Storm:
- When played, all players (including the card's owner) must immediately discard 4 Health Tokens.
- While in effect:
- Generator cards are frozen; turns under Storm do not count towards harvesting.
- Players cannot go Hunting.
- Rain:
- When played, all players (including the card's owner) must immediately discard 1 card.
- While in effect:
- Generator cards only take 1 turn to be ready for harvest (rather than 2).
- Players cannot go Mining.
- When any Weather card is in effect, players cannot trade.
- When the 3 turn timer has been expended, the Weather card must be incinerated.
Crafting
- To craft an item, incinerate the required materials and take ONE card for that item.
- Item - Required Resources
- Stick - 2 Wood
- Sword - 1 Stick, 2 Stone
- Axe - 2 Sticks, 3 Stone
- Pickaxe - 2 Sticks, 3 Wood
- Armor - 4 Leather
Go Mining
If you have a Pickaxe in your Hotbar, take 1 card from the Mining pile (stone, shinies).
Go Hunting
- If you have a Sword in your Hotbar, take 2 cards from the Huntine pile (food, leather).
- Otherwise, take 1 card from the Hunting pile (food, leather).
Trading
- Any two players may choose to agree to any trade on any turn, unless any Weather card is in effect, so long as:
- Both players have sufficient space between both their Inventory and their Hotbar to accomodate all cards they will receive from the trade
- Both players actually possess all the cards they are promising to the other player
